WooCommerce Plugin and Theme Installation Video

Finally a Free WordPress E-commerce solution has arrived. I could not have asked for anything better!

Below is a video on installing the WooCommerce Plugin developed by WooThemes. The video covers installing of the plugin on a fresh wordpress installation along with a walk through all the plugin options. I will install the free theme for WooCommerce and setup the store.

Lets begin with the fresh installation of WordPress. We will first install the WooCommerce Plugin using the WordPress administrative panel. After installing the plugin, activate the same. Once the plugin is activated, browse your website’s homepage and you will find that many pages have been added. The plugin option includes the following sections: General, Pages, Catalogue, Inventory, Shipping, Tax, Shipping Methods and Payment Gateways. A thing to be noted here is WooThemes have mentioned that they will be releasing many extensions for this open source plugin. Using the plugin options you can make/add all the necessary changes and details.

Once the settings are done, we will move ahead and install the free theme – Wootique. There are also many paid themes available to choose from. Once the theme is installed and activated you are ready to add the products and other necessary details to your store.

Print on Tshirts using Tshirt Transfer Paper

A special tshirt transfer paper allows you to transfer your images (printed using an ink jet printer) onto, white or light coloured tshirt. Below are the steps and important notes for printing on tshirts using a transfer paper.

Please see that the image you want to print is of good quality and not blurred. Printing is done in mirror mode onto the white, unprinted side of the transfer paper. In many printers there is an option for Transfer Paper Mode, if its not available in your printer use the Normal Paper Mode but use Best Quality Printing. I would suggest to allow the printout to dry for about 30 minutes before continuing.

Set your iron to the highest setting and pre-heat.

Cut out the image with approx. 5 mm space and place the paper with image side face down on the tshirt fabric which should be wrinkle free and pre-ironed.

Place a smooth cloth (2-3 kitchen towels) between the tshirt and the solid surface such as a table top.

Iron the image by applying consistent circular pressure distributing the heat evenly.

Concentrate on using the centre of the Iron during transfer. Apply heat for 60 to 90 seconds for a small print and about 90 to 120 seconds for a larger print.

Let the transfer paper cool and peel off the interleaving paper from one of the corners using firm and steady pressure.

A heat press can also be used. Set the temperature to 160 degree and press for approx. 40 seconds. I have not tried this with a heat press yet.

Its been developed for Chrome browser and so is best enjoyed on Google Chrome

ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Logo

Today is a great day for all Indian Cricket lovers. After 28 years of waiting India has finally bought back the World Cup home. Nothing could have been a more pleasing win for this team. Beating the current defenders and world campaign Australia in the quater-finals, heading towards the semis and beating Pakistan and then finally defeating Sri-Lanka in the finals.

With this World Cup coming to its end, ICC has unveiled the logo for the 2015 Cricket World Cup which is to be held in Australia and New Zealand. The logo is designed by the Jumbana Group/Balarinji, a graphic consultancy from Australia, which was commissioned by FutureBrand, an international agency. Even the logo for ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 was designed by a creative firm from Australia.

The ICC received applications for the design from across the world before awarding it to the international agency, FutureBrand, whose Australian arm was invited to produce the logo for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. It in turn commissioned graphic consultancy, the Jumbana Group/Balarinji to create both Australian and New Zealand cultural motifs so as to reflect the two indigenous countries’ cultural identities.

The consultancies were asked to convey the cultures of both countries in a positive and harmonious way and also to expresses a feeling of celebration and unity in the graphics. The result has been what ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat describes as “a dynamic logo which captures the cultural influences in the two host countries”.

India Design Council (IDC) unveils, Good Design Mark. Just like the ISI Mark awarded by the bureau of Indian Standards to ensure quality of the product, the new “I” mark will stand for ‘good’ design. The ‘good’ here means that the product design will be usable, durable, aesthetically appealing & environment friendly. The logo – “I” Mark is designed by Vaibhav and Prashant of INDI Design.

The ‘I’ Mark initially would be awarded to product segments such as consumer durables including furniture, kitchenwares, electronic items and even medical equipments. The ‘I’ Mark stands for India Design Mark and has been devised on the same lines as that of “G” Mark from Japan. The G in the G mark stands for ‘good’ and if followed in Japan for close to 50 years now.
The ‘I’ Mark was launched on 4th March 2011.

Commonwealth – The Logo and the Mascot…

Lets talk about the up coming commonwealth games – The Logo and the Masco… This 12-day game event would be the 19th Commonwealth Game. 71 teams from the Commonwealth of Nations will meet in Delhi to participate in the 12-day event.

The Logo

The logo of the 19th CWG is inspired by the Chakra – the Indian national symbol of freedom, unity and power. The logo tagline, Come out and Play, is an invitation to people to let go of themselves and participate in the Games to the best of their of abilities and in the true spirit of the game. It is also a call to the people of India to come out in support of the Games and play the perfect hosts.

Colour Palette

The colour palette of the Delhi 2010 programme combines two of the distinctive colours of the Delhi 2010 Emblem with the official colours of the CWG.

Green

The color that signifies life, energy and high spirits, also represents the fact that Delhi 2010 will be the first ever “Green Games”.

Purple

Combining the stable and calming aspects of blue with the mystical qualities of pink, the colour satisfies the need for reassurance, while adding a hint of mystery and excitment.

Pink

The colour has been introduced to the palette adding an element of surprise and luxury of the event. It plays to the crowd and truly reflects India in all its resplendent glory.

Red, Yellow and Blue

The colours represent the ‘trinity of value’ that symbolize the games – unifying humanity (red), giving all athletes a chance to realize their destiny (yellow) and promoting equality (blue).

The Mascot – SHERA

Unveiled at the end of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in 2006, Shera has become the most visible face of the event. Shera – the tiger – represents the modern Indian. He is an achiever with a positive attitude, a global citizen proud of his nation’s heritage, a fierce competitor but with integrity and honesty.
